What We Do
Student Life – What We Do On Campus
As we seek to see Multiplying Disciples in EVERY people group in PNG, we follow 2 Timothy 2:2. We “entrust (God’s Word) to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others”.
Small Groups
Groups of 3-5 guys, or 3-5 girls are organized and led by our staff or one of our student leaders. This is a perfect chance to make deep connections with like-minded friends, who want to grow in their walks with God. These groups spend time in prayer, Bible study, learning to share with other students how to know Christ, and in encouraging one another. After being in a small group for a time, members are challenged to begin leading a group of their own.
Prayer
Student Life is committed to helping the students grow deep in their personal relationship with God and to see God use them as He sees fit. Besides encouraging them to study the Bible and to be part of a small discipleship group, we are committed to help them pray regularly. We come to God to see His heart and to pray for the other students on campus (and in PNG) who don’t know God. Once a month we hike up a mountain early in the morning and pray for the campus.
Events On Campus:
“Splash” – Student Life’s Weekly Meeting
Every Monday night students involved with Student Life get together for singing, prayer, and encouragement from fellow students. It’s a great way to connect to the broader group of both guys and girls, who are like-minded and fun to be with.
First-year’s Orientation & Alpha Party
During Orientation at the beginning of the year, Student Life greets new students, gives them a gift pack (like a survival kit), and invite them to our Alpha Party. The Alpha Party is not only fun and a great way to make new friends, but lets students know a little more about Student Life. There is an opportunity to join a small group bible study/discipleship group, and to hear about our weekly meetings and upcoming events.
Easter Training Conference
This conference takes place during the long Easter-break weekend. All students are invited. There are times of inspiration, music, and teaching in the basics of the Christian life and leadership skills. There is also a time of learning how to share one’s faith…then the whole group going out into the community one afternoon to practice this skill. This has proven over and over to be one of the most exciting and inspiring times of the conference, where a person can see themselves and others being used by God!
Mid-year Project
This is a one week event to another location, involving students who are leading small groups on campus. This project takes place during the mid-term break. It gives students a chance to practice the ministry skills they’ve learned at UPNG in an off-campus setting. It also provides an opportunity for growth as students take new steps of faith, trusting God in a new environment. The project for 2019 is planned to take place in Goroka.
Omega Celebration
This is our end of the year celebration of all God has done throughout the year. Appreciation is shown to our hard-working student executive team, graduates are acknowledged and prayed for, photos/videos are shown of our students over the past year. And, of course, there’s music and FOOD!
